Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Unit Secretary to support patient services and administrative workflow in the Illinois healthcare system. You will handle phones, greetings, patient information and EMR-related tasks to ensure smooth operations.

Responsibilities include coordinating admissions/discharges, managing logs, and assisting in transfers while keeping the unit ready for EMR downtime and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Demonstrates exemplary customer service skills.
• Answers phones and aids accordingly.
• Communicates with patients and visitors including greeting them upon arrival and providing necessary information related to their visit.

Responsibilities

• Responds to patient call lights and requests for assistance in a professional and timely manner.
• Facilitates obtaining a hard copy of the patient’s health information and scanning into Electronic Medical Record.
• Manages admissions and discharges through Electronic Bed Board.
• Provides clinical staff with medical records of treatment of patients and correct flow of patient and maintains logbook.
• Coordinates and assists in transfer process for patients to another hospital.
• Assures patient care unit readiness for EMR downtime and facilitates data recovery following downtime.
