Job summary

UNC Medical Center's Labor & Delivery is seeking a Surgical Technologist I to join the maternity team. This full-time role, 36 hours per week, features a day/night rotating schedule including weekends in Chapel Hill, NC.

Under supervision of a surgeon and registered nurse, you will prepare surgical suites, maintain sterile fields, assist with C-sections and other obstetrical procedures, and ensure all instruments are properly cleaned and handled to maximize patient safety.

• Successful completion of UNC Health Surgical Technologist competencies.

Responsibilities

• Performs technical skill duties in all operating room specialty service areas.
• Maintains sterile technique and ensures proper handling of instrumentation.
• Follows aseptic technique and reports any contamination or breaks.
• Performs surgical counts and reports discrepancies as required.
• Labels drugs and solutions and monitors quantities used.
• Assists with preparation, handling and labeling of surgical specimens.
• Participates in instrument setup to support efficient procedures.
• Assists the surgeon and team, adapting to patient anatomy as needed.
• Mentors Surgical Technician Trainees and serves as a preceptor when required.
