Job summary

UNC Health Johnston is seeking a Surgical Technologist I to join the Labor & Delivery team. You will work under the supervision of surgeons and RNs to ensure safe, sterile, and efficient operative procedures, supporting patient safety throughout the intraoperative phase.

The position requires 0-3 years of experience, BLS certification, and a background in sterile technique. You will contribute to instrument handling, case setup, and collaboration with the surgical team in a fast-paced, onsite

Qualifications

• 0-3 years of experience as a surgical technologist.
• BLS for Healthcare Provider certification required.
• Graduate of a surgical technology or nursing program per requirements.
• Knowledge of sterile and aseptic technique.

Responsibilities

• Performs technical skill duties in operating room areas following standards.
• Maintains and sterilizes specialty instrumentation.
• Follows aseptic technique and reports contamination.
• Performs surgical counts and reports discrepancies.
• Labels drugs and solutions and monitors usage.
• Assists in identification, preparation, handling, and labeling of specimens.
• Assists in planning instrument setup for procedures.
• Assists surgeon and nurse during intraoperative phase.
• Operates complex equipment and serves as a mentor to trainees.
