Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is hiring a Lab Support Tech I to perform phlebotomy, specimen collection, and labeling across age groups. The role includes computer data entry, specimen receiving, and call support within a busy lab environment.

The position covers offsite locations with a 40-hour work week and every third weekend. A high school diploma and phlebotomy training are required or preferred, with ASCP certification encouraged.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; phlebotomy training preferred.
• Phlebotomy certification or eligibility preferred.
• Proficiency with hospital information systems and basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Collects blood samples via venipuncture across age groups.
• Receives specimens in the computer system and labels specimens accurately.
• Restocks supplies and maintains a clean, organized drawing station.
• Registers courier-delivered specimens efficiently and troubleshoots printer issues.
• Orders tests accurately using hospital test dictionaries and panels.
• Answers and transfers calls courteously and ensures coverage for incoming calls.
• Performs capillary collection and PKU collections with proper technique.
• Provides coverage across offsite locations and supports emergency room workflows.
• Maintains PPE compliance, shift reports, and routine inventory management.
• Supports patient care with age-appropriate communication and assessment.
