Job summary

The Miriam Hospital is seeking a detail-oriented Laboratory Support Assistant to handle pre-analytical specimen processing, patient registration, test ordering, and specimen distribution. You will work with laboratory and hospital computer systems to ensure accurate data entry and prompt result delivery.

Under supervision, you will maintain logs, verify labeling, and communicate with care units to prioritize tests and address issues.

Qualifications

• High school diploma with biology and chemistry coursework.
• Strong organizational and clerical abilities for logs and records.
• Ability to interact professionally with physicians and staff.
• Proficient computer skills and familiarity with LIS/HIS systems.

Responsibilities

• Receives specimens for pre-analytical processing and registry.
• Maintains logs and updates records in LIS/HIS.
• Clarifies testing requests and notifies redraws as needed.
• Enter ICD-9 codes and update physician information in systems.
• Responds to inquiries and communicates lab results.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to safety policies.
