The Miriam Hospital in Providence, RI seeks a Laboratory Clerk to support pre-analytical processing, patient registration, and test ordering within the hospital laboratories. You will handle specimen labeling, tracking, and communications with care units, physicians, and external labs, ensuring accurate data entry in LIS/HIS systems.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma with biology/chemistry coursework, strong computer skills, and at least one year of relevant experience or on-the-job

Formación

• High school diploma with biology and chemistry coursework.
• Applies standard precautions; able to maintain logs and records.
• Computer skills; ability to interact with physicians, nurses, external laboratories about services and results.
• One year experience in similar duties or one-year on-the-job training at The Miriam Hospital.

Responsabilidades

• Receives specimens for pre-analytical processing, patient registration, test ordering, and specimen distribution.
• Maintains logbooks and documents; checks specimens for special handling needs.
• Contacts units and physicians to clarify testing requests and prioritize tests; notify redraws.
• Answers central laboratory line; resolves issues or directs to appropriate person.
• Enters ICD-9 coding in LIS/HIS and updates physician information; maintains inventory.
• Maintains confidentiality and follows hospital policies; performs duties timely.
