Job summary

Montefiore Medical Center’s Division of Clinical Pathology seeks a Senior Clerk to support pre- and post-analytical laboratory processes. You will handle registration, specimen receipt, and order entry, and troubleshoot track input/output issues while ensuring quality and safety.

You’ll manage client communications, assist with training, and help maintain inventory and dashboards across multiple sites, with a day shift and alternate weekends schedule in Bronx, NY.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
• Operates laboratory centrifuges, computers, printers, pneumatic tubes, and office equipment.
• Learn order test codes and use lab/clinical information systems.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Patient registration, insurance verification, and order entry tasks including reference testing.
• Follow-up with clients/clinical staff for information, specimen questions, reporting and documentation of critical values.
• Specimen preparation and handling to include; specimen retrieval, centrifugation, aliquoting, add-ons, delivery and pick-up to reference laboratories.
• Process specimens according to lab sections and reference laboratories requirements, including non-blood specimens and automation line handling.
• Troubleshoot input/output modules of the track; resolve software and track exception errors.
• Communicate track issues with mechanics, supervisors, and technologists.
• Inventory management including monitoring of stock levels.
• Conform to infection control procedures and keep a clean, organized work area; train other staff.
