Job summary

FSIS seeks a Laboratory Sample Handler in the Athens, GA area to manage receipt, identification, preparation, distribution, and storage of various samples. The role ensures proper handling, legal integrity, and ISO 17025 compliance across multiple disciplines.

Responsibilities include inventory management, shipping logistics, documentation in LIMS, forklift operation, and adherence to safety and environmental directives. Federal employment requirements apply.

Qualifications

• You must be a US citizen or US national.
• Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
• Background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
• One-year probationary period unless previously served.
• Direct Deposit required by Federal law.
• Pass E-Verify employment verification check.
• Declaration for Federal Employment (OF-306) may be required prior to appointment.

Responsibilities

• Receive, identify, prepare, distribute, and store monitoring, surveillance, special agent and compliance investigative samples.
• Ensure proper handling and storage of incoming/reserve samples and preserve their legal integrity.
• Distribute target tissues to the appropriate laboratory sections and manage samples designated for multiple disciplines.
• Maintain sufficient inventory and distribute shipping supplies and sampling kits for FSIS sampling programs and special programs.
• Ensure all work complies with ISO 17025 requirements.
• Prepare sample boxes for return to inspectors and label boxes accordingly.
• Receive/deliver laboratory supplies, equipment, furniture, and chemicals purchased by the laboratory.
• Process related documentation and enter items in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
• Maintain forklift certification and knowledge of warehouse safety, DOT regulations, and hazardous waste rules.
• Determine which samples require chain of custody for legal evidence and maintain required documentation.
• Keep up-to-date with directives and safety/environmental regulations.
