Job summary

Patient First is seeking a laboratory supervisor to oversee clinical testing operations. The role involves ensuring test validity, quality control, proficiency testing, and compliance with policies across centers.

The candidate will supervise staff, evaluate competency, and provide expert guidance for testing processes. Responsibilities include reporting findings, maintaining instrument performance, conducting inspections, and coordinating training sessions.

Qualifications

• 18 years of age or older
• Minimum typing experience
• At least one year of supervisory experience preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or chemical, physical, or biological science with 2 years of training/experience (VA/MD) and 4 years preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or chemical, physical, or biological science with 6 years of training/experience (PA/NJ)
• Thorough knowledge of medical technology principles, concepts, and methodologies
• Knowledge of laboratory instrumentation
• Ability to sit, stand and walk for long periods (4–7 hours)
• Lift up to 30 pounds
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks
• Willingness to work at any center due to staffing emergencies

Responsibilities

• Report findings involving laboratory operations as directed
• Ensure test methodology and procedures are appropriate for clinical use and establish performance criteria
• Ensure enrollment in an approved proficiency testing program
• Establish quality control for each test performed
• Maintain acceptable analytic performance levels throughout testing
• Resolve technical problems and take remedial actions when necessary
• Ensure patient test results are not reported until corrective actions are completed
• Identify training needs and provide in-service training
• Evaluate the competency of testing personnel including 6- and 12-month evaluations
• Provide on-site, telephone, or electronic consultation as needed
• Review medical records for compliance with Patient First policies
• Perform onsite inspections accurately according to schedule
• Complete inspection reports on schedule
• Assist with revisions of inspection process and criteria
• Perform inspection follow-ups
• Conduct training sessions with center personnel
• Receive and move ordered supplies
• Assist at other locations as directed
• Implement established policies and procedures
• Handle physician requests with respect and in a timely manner
