Job summary

Bassett Healthcare Network is seeking a Laboratory Support Technician to perform blood specimen collection across adult and pediatric patients, including venous and capillary draws. You will order tests in LIS, prepare samples, and ensure proper labeling and transport to reference labs.

The role requires attention to detail, good communication with patients, and adherence to hospital and laboratory policies. Training of new staff may be requested.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED, required.
• 1 year of experience in similar capacity, preferred but not required.
• CPT-A Phlebotomy Certification (CPT) preferred; training includes 60h didactic + 60h clinical or 100 observed draws.

Responsibilities

• Identifies patients by verifying name, DOB, and MRN before specimen collection.
• Maintains confidentiality and HIPAA-compliant communication with patients.
• Collects high-quality specimens for all tests ordered from all age groups.
• Reviews specimens and requisitions to ensure correct testing and labeling.
• Delivers STAT/urgent specimens to the appropriate area in a timely manner.
• Assists with training of new staff and follows laboratory policies.
