Job summary

Advocate Health Care is seeking a phlebotomist to verify patient identification, collect specimens, and ensure proper labeling for testing across age groups. The role includes CLIA-guided testing, data entry, and support for billing and inventory within a clinical laboratory environment.

The candidate will handle specimens from newborns to adults, maintain specimen integrity, and assist with education for staff and students while upholding patient safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Demonstrates knowledge and experience in phlebotomy or related laboratory function.
• Basic computer skills including experience using computer software applications.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Good listening skills.

Responsibilities

• Verifies positive patient identification and collects specimens following protocol.
• Performs venipuncture and collects specimens from newborn to adult patients.
• Ensures specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing; resolves identification issues.
• Performs limited testing under CLIA guidelines according to policies.
• Answers and screens calls; assists with inventory and billing support.
• Receives, sorts, and packages specimens for transport; responds to special requests.
• Orders and verifies test requests; documents information for QA/QI; runs QC checks.
• Performs laboratory result entry in the computer system; participates in proficiency testing.
• Instructs employees and students in phlebotomy and specimen processing.
• Provides age-appropriate care for patients.
