Job summary

Moxy Washington, DC Downtown is seeking a Kitchen Expo to bridge kitchen and front-of-house, ensuring dishes leaving the kitchen meet high standards of presentation, accuracy, and quality.

You'll coordinate timing, monitor tickets, and support the culinary team during high-volume service, with advancement opportunities through our Management Development Program.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary communication link between the kitchen and front-of-house team.
  • Review and organize incoming food orders and tickets to maintain proper timing and flow.
  • Ensure food is prepared and presented according to established recipes, quality standards, and presentation guidelines.
  • Inspect completed dishes for accuracy, portioning, presentation, temperature, and proper accompaniments before they leave the kitchen.
  • Coordinate the timing of multiple dishes to ensure orders for the same table or party are completed and served together.
  • Communicate special requests, dietary restrictions, allergies, substitutions, and modifications clearly to the culinary team.
  • Communicate with servers regarding completed orders, delays, missing items, and special requests.

About the Role

As a Kitchen Expo, you will be a crucial asset to our ROCKSTAR TEAM, serving as the essential connection between our kitchen and front-of-house teams. You will help ensure that every dish leaving the kitchen is accurate, properly presented, complete, and delivered with the highest standards of quality and consistency.

Your organization, attention to detail, communication skills, and positive attitude will help keep our kitchen running smoothly while ensuring our guests receive an exceptional dining experience. You'll play a key role in coordinating timing between the culinary team and servers, monitoring tickets, checking plates, and ensuring every order meets our standards before it reaches the guest.

  • Monitor ticket times and proactively communicate with cooks and service staff to maintain efficient kitchen operations.
  • Assist with final garnishing, plating, and organization of dishes when needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient expo station throughout the shift.
  • Assist with maintaining overall kitchen cleanliness and organization.
  • Follow all food safety, health, sanitation, and workplace safety standards.
  • Work collaboratively with culinary and front-of-house teams to create a positive and efficient working environment.
  • Provide support to the culinary team during periods of high volume and special events.
Requirements

Prior experience in a luxury hotel, upscale restaurant, or high-volume culinary environment is ideal, but we are willing to train the right hospitality professional looking to grow their career. We are dedicated to thoroughly training and developing our team into hotel leaders through interactive teamwork in a positive work environment!

  • Previous restaurant, hotel, culinary, or hospitality experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and focused during high-volume service periods.
  • Strong understanding of food quality, presentation, and proper service standards.
  • Excellent English communication skills; ability to read, write, and speak fluently.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Able to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be a dependable team player with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.

$19.00 - $22.00 per hour
