Job summary

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks an Advanced Kinetic Weapons Engineer to analyze simulated guided missiles using high‑fidelity tools and to assess interceptor systems’ performance. You will validate simulations, craft clear visualizations, and present findings to sponsors such as the U.S. Navy and MDA.

Security clearance eligibility and U.S. citizenship are required for access to classified programs.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, Math or Physics
  • Experience analyzing simulated large-scale dynamical systems
  • Ability to craft clear visualizations and explain outcomes
  • Experience with HPC clusters and SLURM/GRID engines
  • Exposure to VV&A testing and security clearances
  • Familiarity with SysML/Cameo/Rhapsody is a plus
  • Proficiency in MATLAB or SciPy/Julia
  • Comfort in Linux environment and U.S. citizenship

Responsibilities

  • Generate and analyze simulated guided missile data with high‑fidelity tools
  • Evaluate performance of interceptor systems and seeker operations
  • Validate simulations against requirements to obtain accreditation
  • Present findings to sponsors including Navy and MDA
  • Influence future designs for defense systems
