Job summary

Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is seeking an Advanced Kinetic Weapons Engineer to generate and analyze simulated guided missile data using high-fidelity simulations and statistical tools.

You will evaluate interceptor system performance, validate results against requirements, and present key findings to government sponsors including the U.S. Navy and MDA. This role supports weapon systems engineering and future defense designs in a high-security environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Math or Physics.
  • Experience with scientific computing, data analysis, or statistics through coursework or projects.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB or similar (SciPy/Julia).
  • Comfort working in a Linux OS environment.
  • Able to obtain Interim Secret clearance by start date and ultimately Top Secret; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Generate and analyze simulated guided missile data using high-fidelity/multi-fidelity simulations and statistical tools.
  • Evaluate performance of interceptor systems, EO/IR and RF seeker operations, guidance and control, sensor handover, proximity fuze, and warhead efficacy.
  • Verify and validate simulations against requirements and real-world data to obtain accreditation.
  • Present key findings to government sponsors such as the U.S. Navy and MDA.
  • Influence decisions and future designs for missile defense systems to protect warfighters.
