Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a Software Developer to build and integrate software models of combat system elements for the Aegis Weapon System and national missile defenses, within a highly collaborative engineering team.

You will prototype algorithms, verify and validate high‑fidelity models, and help design integrated software solutions that optimize simulation workflows and deliver clear insights to sponsors.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in CS, EE, CE, Physics, Mathematics or related field.
  • Fluent in modern C++ and Python.
  • Proficient with software revision control tools in a DevOps environment.
  • Eligible for Interim Secret clearance by start date and final clearance later; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and prototype software models of combat system elements and algorithms for AWS and national defense.
  • Integrate models with existing simulations to support concept exploration and future capabilities.
  • Assist in verification and validation of high-fidelity combat system models.
  • Participate in multi-functional teams to select modeling and simulation approaches.
  • Architect integrated software solutions to optimize simulation workflows and analyses.
  • Translate simulation outputs into clear insights for sponsors and deliver presentations.
