Job summary

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is seeking a Software Engineer to join our Sensor/Weapon Command & Control software team in the defense domain. You will design, develop, test, and maintain software supporting missile defense and electronic warfare missions, working in a data‑driven, model-based environment.

You will refactor and extend a data‑type agnostic analysis tool suite and modeling framework, improving algorithms, interfaces, data sources, and visualizations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or related field.
• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• Proficient in Python data visualization.
• Frontend development with TypeScript/React and HTML5/JavaScript.
• Experience with Git/GitLab for version control and cross‑platform (Windows/Linux).
• Experience with Docker/Podman and relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL).
• Strong communication skills and ability to travel for field tests as needed.
• Eligible for U.S. citizenship and security clearance (Secret with TS/SCI potential).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain software for missile defense and electronic warfare missions.
• Refactor and maintain data agnostic analysis tool suites and create analysis products.
• Work with modeling and simulation frameworks, adding capabilities and visualizations.
• Collaborate with government and industry partners to define architecture, interfaces, performance metrics, and validation tests.
