Job summary

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is seeking a Missile Modeling and Simulation Engineer to develop physics-based engagement-level tools for analyzing precision strike systems. You will contribute to high-fidelity simulations across aerodynamics, propulsion, GNC, radar, and EW while collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team of experts.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Aerospace, Electrical or other Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or equivalent.
• Experience as a core contributor in modeling and simulation of missile systems and/or aerospace vehicles.
• Strong programming skills in C++, Python, and MATLAB.
• Proficiency in software version control and unit, integration, and regression testing principles.
• Willing and able to learn missile systems concepts to improve modeling and simulation tools and perform engagement-level analysis.
• Eligible to obtain InterimSecret clearance by start date and eventually Top Secret clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

• Guide and execute missile modeling concepts into a modular C++ 6DoF simulation for threat modeling and weapon performance assessments.
• Develop and maintain analysis software tools, pipelines, and workflows to assess engagement-level results.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to improve missile modeling and engagement analysis capabilities.
• Prepare and present formal documentation to technical specialists, partners, and sponsors.
• Lead software engineering best practices, including code reviews, CI, documentation, and reusable libraries.
• Conduct physics-based one-vs-one and one-vs-few analyses of threat missile systems against blue platforms.
