Job description

Machine Sciences manufactures complex machined components for some of the world's most advanced aerospace, defense, space, and technology companies. We hold ourselves to the highest standards in precision manufacturing and rapid development, producing sophisticated parts that support world-changing technologies.

As our business continues to grow, we're looking for talented, driven individuals who thrive in a fast-paced environment and are passionate about delivering exceptional products and customer experiences. At Machine Sciences, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement are part of everything we do.

Overview

The Key Account Manager (KAM) is responsible for the health, growth, and success of Machine Sciences' customer relationships. This is not a transactional sales role—it requires a strategic thinker who understands complex manufacturing, technical requirements, and customer operations while delivering an exceptional customer experience.

The KAM serves as the primary point of contact for assigned customers and acts as both a trusted advisor externally and an internal champion for customer success. This role is responsible for developing customer relationships, identifying growth opportunities, coordinating quotations, managing customer communications, and ensuring commitments are delivered successfully.

Success in this position requires someone who can seamlessly move between strategic conversations and detailed execution. The ideal candidate is analytical, highly organized, technically curious, and relentlessly proactive. They anticipate challenges before they arise, coordinate cross-functional teams, and ensure critical details never fall through the cracks. This role requires a scrappy, solution-oriented mindset—a "Honey Badger" mentality—and someone who embodies Machine Sciences' Core Values of Hungry, Humble, Collaborative, and Smart in every interaction.

Customer Relationship Management
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned customer accounts.
  • Develop and strengthen long-term customer relationships built on trust, responsiveness, and professionalism.
  • Thoroughly understand each customer's business, programs, products, organizational structure, buying process, and strategic objectives.
  • Identify opportunities to expand business within existing accounts by uncovering unmet needs and new programs.
  • Lead and participate in Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs).
Customer Advocacy
  • Be the internal champion for your customers, advocating for their success while balancing the needs of Machine Sciences.
  • Proactively identify risks and coordinate solutions before they impact customer commitments.
  • Build confidence through exceptional communication, responsiveness, and follow-through.
Sales & Business Growth
  • Meet or exceed sales and account growth objectives established by leadership.
  • Monitor account performance, profitability, and win/loss ratios to maximize long-term business success.
  • Support the onboarding of new customers and programs.
Quoting & Technical Coordination
  • Develop timely, accurate, and competitive quotations aligned with customer requirements and company capabilities.
  • Partner closely with the Planning team to ensure complete and accurate quote packages.
  • Understand customer prints, specifications, quality requirements, and technical documentation.
  • Apply sound business judgment when developing pricing strategies.
Communication & Project Coordination
  • Serve as the bridge between customers, vendors, engineering, planning, production, and quality teams.
  • Clearly communicate customer priorities, schedule changes, risks, and expectations across the organization.
  • Maintain accurate forecasts and communicate anticipated customer demand.
  • Provide modest project management support when needed to ensure successful execution.
  • Maintain accurate customer information, opportunities, forecasts, contacts, and program details within the CRM.
  • Demonstrate exceptional attention to detail and ensure data accuracy across all customer communications.
  • Continuously look for opportunities to improve systems, processes, and workflows rather than relying on one-off solutions.
  • Use data and analytics to support decision-making and improve customer outcomes.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in account management, sales, program management, or customer success within manufacturing or a technical industry preferred.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience using CRM systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
