Job summary

Alpha School is hiring an on-site Elementary School Guide to lead guided reading and app-based literacy instruction for K-3 students. You will diagnose gaps, design short intervention sequences, and drive progress through daily routines and data-informed teaching.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years working directly with children ages 4-9 in teaching, coaching, tutoring, camps, youth programs, or similar settings.
• At least 2 years of that experience teaching reading in grades K-3 within the last 5 years.
• Completed structured-literacy training or a master’s in reading or literacy.
• Bachelor’s degree in any subject; teaching certificate not required.
• Comfortable spending ~70% of day guiding students through app-based learning and 30% on targeted reading sessions.
• Legally authorized to work in the US without visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Coaching students through app-based core learning: spotting gaps, asking unblocking questions, and maintaining daily goals.
• Running targeted, structured-literacy sessions with small groups; diagnosing gaps and teaching designed sequences.
• Leading morning routines, workshops, and check-chart activities to keep young students progressing.
• Motivating students to weekly app goals using school currency, leaderboards, and gamification.
• Staying with students through lunch, recess, closing, and interventions with productive plans.
