Job summary

Mastery Schools is seeking an Assistant Director of K‑3 Literacy to lead and strengthen foundational literacy across our K‑3 program. This role partners with schools to elevate Tier 1 instruction, support teacher coaching, and implement evidence‑based literacy programming grounded in the Science of Reading.

The role focuses on mentoring literacy teams, developing resources, and guiding data‑driven improvements to help students become capable, independent readers and writers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• At least five years of experience in literacy instruction, teacher coaching, curriculum development, or instructional leadership.
• Experience implementing evidence-based literacy practices aligned to the Science of Reading.

Responsibilities

• Support implementation of high-quality Tier 1 literacy instruction grounded in the Science of Reading through coaching, observation, modeling, feedback and PD.
• Strengthen K‑3 MTSS, including Tier 1 instruction, intervention systems, progress monitoring, and data-driven planning.
• Analyze student achievement and data to identify trends and inform school support and priorities.
• Design and facilitate professional learning to improve teacher practice and instructional execution.
• Develop resources, tools, and guidance to support curriculum implementation and decision making.
• Contribute to network literacy initiatives, assessments, pilots, and priorities.
• Collaborate with K‑2 and 3‑8 teams to ensure coherence and transitions into third grade.
• Support Academic Operations with assessment implementation and school support as needed.
