Job summary

Virginia Beach City Public Schools seeks a skilled sign language interpreter to facilitate communication for deaf or hard-of-hearing students across K-12, per IEPs. You will interpret in meetings, classrooms, assemblies, and special events, ensuring accurate representation of material and adherence to RID Code of Professional Conduct.

Responsibilities include mentoring new interpreters, promoting cultural understanding, and pursuing ongoing state or national certifications.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; passing EIPA Written Test.
• Minimum Level 3.5 on EIPA Performance Test or equivalent.
• Preferred: Associate degree or higher.

Responsibilities

• Interpret for deaf or hard-of-hearing students K-12 as needed per IEP.
• Interpret for IEP meetings, parent conferences and Deaf staff.
• Interpret assemblies, performances, field trips and other activities.
• Interpret outside school day activities such as tutoring and PTA meetings.
• Mentor newly hired interpreters and students in training programs.
• Promote cultural understanding and serve as a resource to staff.
