Job summary

Portsmouth School District seeks an Educational Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) to provide high-quality interpreting for deaf or hard of hearing students within an inclusive school setting.

The role involves sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpreting, collaboration with the IEP team, and adherence to RID/FERPA standards to ensure equal access to instruction and activities across classrooms and events.

Qualifications

• Must hold or be eligible for NH certification as Educational Interpreter.
• EIPA score 3.5+ or RID/NAD preferred.
• Interpreter Training Program completion or related degree.
• Deep understanding of Deaf culture and multiple communication modes.
• K-12 experience, especially with middle/high school students.

Responsibilities

• Provide sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpreting in classrooms and events.
• Interpret complex vocabulary and prepare for advanced subjects.
• Collaborate with IEP team to discuss communication plans.
• Maintain RID Code of Professional Conduct and FERPA confidentiality.
• Monitor environment for optimal visual access and communication.
• Support IEP goals related to communication and language development.
