Job summary

Virginia Beach City Public Schools in Virginia Beach is seeking a sign language interpreter to support deaf or hard-of-hearing students in classrooms, meetings, and events, in compliance with RID Code of Professional Conduct.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, EIPA level 3.5 or higher, and relevant state/national certifications; a related associate degree is preferred. You will collaborate with teachers, administrators and parents, and engage in ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• Must pass the EIPA Written Test and achieve at least level 3.5 on the EIPA Performance Test or an equivalent state/national certification.
• High school diploma or GED is required; a higher degree is preferred.
• Valid certifications recognized by the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing are acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Interpret all content for deaf or hard-of-hearing students in grades K-12 as needed by IEPs.
• Interpret for IEP meetings, parent conferences and Deaf staff members.
• Interpret during assemblies, performances, announcements, and field trips.
• Prepare for assignments to ensure accurate representation of material.
• Mentor newly hired interpreters and participate in professional development.
