Qualifications

• General knowledge of American Sign Language and deaf culture.
• Ability to translate/interpret from spoken English to sign language.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, parents, students, and the public.

Responsibilities

• Facilitating communication between deaf students and hearing faculty/staff using interpretation/transliterating.
• Interprets the spoken word through sign language for hearing-impaired students in regular classrooms.
• Assists teachers to achieve instructional goals for hearing-impaired students.
• Assists the hearing-impaired teacher with assigned duties.
• Works with individuals or small groups to reinforce materials from teachers.
• Participates in in-service training programs as assigned.
• Performs related tasks as required.
