Suffolk Public Schools is seeking a full-time Interpreter (Certified III) to support hearing-impaired students in Suffolk, Virginia. The role involves interpreting between spoken English and sign language in classrooms and assisting teachers to meet instructional goals.

Knowledge of American Sign Language and deaf culture is essential. Typical duties include in-class interpretation, collaboration with staff, and participation in professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

• General knowledge of American Sign Language and deaf culture.
• Ability to translate/interpret from spoken English to sign language.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, parents, students, and the public.

Responsabilités

• Facilitating communication between deaf students and hearing faculty/staff using interpretation/transliterating.
• Interprets the spoken word through sign language for hearing-impaired students in regular classrooms.
• Assists teachers to achieve instructional goals for hearing-impaired students.
• Assists the hearing-impaired teacher with assigned duties.
• Works with individuals or small groups to reinforce materials from teachers.
• Participates in in-service training programs as assigned.
• Performs related tasks as required.
