Job summary

State of Georgia invites applications for a School Resource Officer at the Augusta YDC in Augusta, GA. The role covers law enforcement duties to maintain security and order within a detention facility in an educational setting, including student screening and classroom walkthroughs.

The position requires a High School diploma or GED and POST Mandate Training. Prefer candidate with a college degree in Criminal Justice or related field, and prior SRO or Peace Officer experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and successful completion of Georgia P.O.S.T. Basic Mandate Law Enforcement Training.
• Undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Sociology or related field preferred.
• 1+ year experience as a School Resource Officer preferred.
• 3+ years as a Peace Officer with POST certification.
• 2+ years supervisory experience in police or investigative work preferred.
• Ability to perform physical tasks such as standing, kneeling, bending and crawling.

Responsibilities

• Maintain security and order in a detention facility educational setting.
• Provide security clearance for students entering secure areas.
• Conduct regular walkthroughs of classrooms, halls, and offices.
• Address disruptive or poorly behaved students; manage attendance and dress code issues.
• Facilitate safety drills and inspect areas for contraband and safety breaches.
• Monitor surveillance equipment and report issues for corrective action.
• Meet with supervisors and staff to coordinate student involvement and meetings.
• Coordinate weekly student success meetings and monthly parent meetings.
