Job summary

The Department of Juvenile Justice seeks a School Resource Officer for Macon YDC, Macon, GA. The role provides security and order in a detention facility education setting, coordinating with education staff and probation where needed.

Qualified candidates have a high school diploma or GED and Basic Mandate Law Enforcement Training; applicants with POST certification and prior SRO experience are preferred. Benefits include health/dental insurance and paid leave.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and successful completion of Basic Mandate Law Enforcement Training.
• Undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Sociology or related field preferred.
• One year or more experience as a School Resource Officer preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs law enforcement duties to maintain security and order in a detention facility educational setting.
• Provide security clearance for each student entering the secure area of the building.
• Regularly conduct walkthroughs of classrooms, hallways and school offices.
• Address disruptive, improperly dressed, late, or absent students.
• Facilitate safety drills and inspect areas for contraband and safety breaches.
• Monitor security equipment and coordinate with supervisors and staff as needed.
