Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Atlanta is seeking an Assistant Civil/Transmission Engineer to support design and construction of high voltage transmission lines. You will assist in all stages from concept to completion, adapt plans to client needs, and work under a licensed PE to ensure quality deliverables.

The role requires a civil engineering degree (ABET preferred), internship experience, strong CAD skills, and the ability to work in a team environment. Some travel may apply.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field; ABET preferred.
• Internship or related consulting experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of civil/structural engineering techniques and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work methodically and analytically in quantitative problem solving.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCAD.
• Strong attention to detail; leadership and teamwork capabilities.
• EIT certification preferred.
• Minimum 3.0 GPA preferred.
• Campus or community involvement preferred.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Assists in transmission line design from concept through design completion.
• Modifies and reviews production drawings for high voltage transmission lines (69-500kV).
• Designs transmission line components per project manager needs, including plan/profile drawings and load/foundation diagrams.
• Applies basic civil/structural engineering concepts within the industry.
• Researches and compiles project data; assists with studies and reports.
• Corrects and updates drawings using CAD software.
• Assists with client presentations, shop drawing reviews, and contract administration.
• Performs field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.
• Performs other duties as assigned; complies with policies and standards.
