Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Minneapolis, MN seeks an Assistant Civil/Transmission Engineer to support licensed engineers on high voltage transmission projects (69-500 kV). You will assist design, drafting, field inspections, and client communications throughout design and construction phases.

The role emphasizes CAD proficiency (AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM), strong teamwork, and analytical problem solving. A related engineering degree and internship experience are preferred; EIT is a plus.

Qualifications

• ABET accreditation preferred for civil/structural engineering.
• Internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of civil/structural engineering techniques and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work methodically and analytically in problem-solving environments.
• Proficient with CAD and structural analysis tools.

Responsibilities

• Assists in transmission line design from conceptual to design completion.
• Assists with modifying and reviewing production drawings for high voltage lines.
• Assists in designing line components including plans, profiles, and foundation drawings.
• Applies basic civil/structural engineering concepts per standards.
• Assists with data collection, studies, and reports.
• Assists with CAD corrections and updates across software.
• Supports client presentations, shop drawings, and contract administration.
• Performs field inspections, measurements, or calculations for clients.
• Complies with policies and standards.
