Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Chattanooga, TN seeks an Assistant Civil/Transmission Engineer to support design teams on high voltage transmission projects, including underground and overhead lines. You will assist with conceptual to final design, prepare and review CAD drawings, and help compile studies under the supervision of licensed engineers.

You will apply civil/structural concepts, coordinate with project managers, and participate in client communications and field activities.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited civil engineering program or equivalent.
• Internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
• Fundamental knowledge of civil/structural engineering concepts.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work methodically and analyze problems quantitatively.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office; CAD and design software listed above.
• Leadership potential and teamwork demonstrated in projects.

Responsibilities

• Assist in transmission line design from concept through design completion.
• Modify and review production drawings for high voltage lines (69-500kV).
• Design transmission line components per project manager needs: plan/profile drawings, load diagrams, foundations.
• Apply basic civil/structural engineering concepts and standards.
• Research and compile project data and studies for managers.
• Assist in updating CAD drawings and verify corrections across software.
• Support client presentations, shop drawing reviews, and contract admin.
• Perform field inspections, measurements or calculations for clients.
• Contribute to project teams and comply with policies.
