Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in California seeks an Assistant Civil/Transmission Engineer to assist project teams in designing high voltage transmission lines (69–500 kV) from concept through construction.

Under supervision of a licensed PE, you will modify drawings in CAD, help prepare plans and profiles, perform field inspections and support report writing. A Civil Engineering degree and EIT are preferred; ABET accreditation is strongly preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
• Internship or related consulting experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of civil/structural techniques, principles and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Analytical thinking with quantitative problem-solving ability.
• Proficient Microsoft Office; basic CAD skills in AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCAD.
• Strong attention to detail, teamwork and problem solving skills.
• EIT certification preferred.
• GPA 3.0+ strongly preferred.
• Campus involvement preferred.
• Legally eligible to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Assist in transmission line design from concept through completion.
• Assist with modifying and reviewing production drawings for high voltage lines (69–500kV).
• Assist in designing transmission line components and related drawings.
• Apply basic civil/structural concepts per codes and procedures.
• Assist with research, data collection, and study reports.
• Assist in updating CAD drawings and verify corrections in CAD software.
• Assist with client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration.
• Assist in field inspections, measurements, or calculations for clients.
