The Islamic Center at NYU (ICNYU) is seeking a mission-driven, highly organized Junior Researcher/Office Manager to lead and manage the Center’s day-to-day operations, financial administration, and student support logistics. This person will play a central role in maintaining the infrastructure that allows ICNYU to offer meaningful programming and spiritual services to Muslim students and the broader campus community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Office & Administrative Operations
  • Develop and implement office policies and standard operating procedures to ensure consistency and compliance with NYU guidelines.
  • Manage day-to-day office functions including calendars, scheduling, meeting coordination, and space usage.
  • Maintain organizational systems for files, documents, inventory, and digital assets.
  • Ensure proper functioning of office equipment and coordinate procurement of supplies.

Serve as the first point of contact for visitors, calls, and general inquiries, representing ICNYU with professionalism and care.

  • Liaise with NYU offices (Facilities, Building Staff.) to support daily operations, ie: room bookings etc.
    • Financial & Budget Management
  • Process financial transactions including invoices, reimbursements, vendor payments, and student worker timesheets.
  • Support the annual budget process and monthly financial reporting in coordination with NYU Finance and Budget offices.
  • Track program-specific budgets, grants, and expenditures to ensure accurate and compliant financial documentation.
  • Assist with financial forecasting, audits, and year-end reporting.
    • Student & Programmatic Support
  • Supervise and mentor student employees and contractors.
  • Provide logistical support for events including Friday prayers, guest lectures, Ramadan programming, and leadership initiatives.
  • Research, track and report on engagement metrics and maintain participant databases.
  • Help coordinate the student employment lifecycle (hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and timesheet management).
    • Research & Strategic Assessment
  • Collect and analyze data related to student engagement, attendance, and program feedback.
  • Track trends in religious life participation across campus to inform programming decisions.
Assist in preparing reports and presentations for internal planning, fundraising, or university-wide assessments.

  • Support the development and implementation of survey instruments for evaluating program effectiveness and community needs.
  • Collaborate with NYU offices or academic partners to share findings and best practices around Muslim student life and inclusion.
    • Communications & Community Engagement
  • Assist with content creation for newsletters, social media, and promotional materials.
  • Maintain internal contact databases, listservs, and distribution systems.
  • Support the Center’s communication with NYU departments, campus partners, and external organizations.
  • Help coordinate donor acknowledgements and board communications where applicable.

  • Support the planning of religious observances (e.g., Ramadan, Eid, Muharram events) and immersive student experiences.
  • Help create a welcoming, inclusive, and spiritually affirming environment aligned with Islamic values and NYU’s diversity goals.
  • Bachelor's degree required: advanced degree in a related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in operations, office management, or nonprofit administration.
  • Experience in a higher education, faith-based, or student-facing environment is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising part-time or student staff.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with attention to detail follow-through.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, particulary across diverse communities.
  • Commitment to the mission of the Islamic Center and sensitivity to religious and cultural pluralism.
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the compensation for this position is $72,000 - $78,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organization considerations when extending an offer.
