Job summary

WSP USA is seeking an entry-level Mechanical Engineer for our Columbia, MD office starting in the Summer of 2027. You will participate in projects with the Property & Buildings Team, assisting in the design, development, building, testing, and inspection of mechanical systems for infrastructure and buildings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline.
• 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience.
• Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
• Familiarity with design/build concepts.
• Familiarity with mechanical systems design codes and record-keeping requirements.
• Interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences.
• Self-leadership with attention to detail in a dynamic environment.
• Ability to work independently or in a team.
• Proficiency with technical writing, office software, spreadsheets, and tools.
• Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (Revit, AutoCAD, CAM).
• Commitment to workplace safety and company policies.
• Ability to work schedules beyond typical workweeks and travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Under general supervision, collect, compile, and analyze data from site surveys, blueprints, diagrams, and reports for project development.
• Assist with professional mechanical engineering tasks related to research and inspections of site conditions and conformance with rules and permits.
• Perform routine engineering functions and provide entry-level technical assistance on design requirements and operating strategies.
• Assist with verifying site characteristics and addressing engineering and construction issues.
• Generate documentation and specifications using electronic systems, drawings, and field notes.
• Follow safety guidelines and site procedures including data collection and engineering studies.
• Complete training on assigned tasks.
• Exercise ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
