Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Full-Time Early Career Mechanical Engineer for our Arlington, VA office, starting Summer 2027. You will contribute to the Property & Buildings Team, assisting with design, development, testing, and inspection of mechanical systems on infrastructure projects in public and private sectors.

You will assist with data collection, perform basic engineering tasks, and help generate documentation while adhering to safety standards and company policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 0–1 years of post-education experience.
  • Familiarity with design/build processes and concepts.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems, codes, and permits.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail with multitasking and prioritization.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team.
  • Proficiency with technical writing and common software/tools.
  • Experience with discipline-specific design software (Revit/AutoCAD/CAM).

Responsibilities

  • Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from site, surveys, drawings, schematics, data, and reports for project development.
  • Perform basic professional mechanical engineering work relating to research and inspections of site conditions, equipment, resources, and mechanical systems for conformance with rules and permits.
  • Provide entry-level technical assistance on design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies for proper installation and functioning of equipment.
  • Assist with verifying site characteristics and providing technical assistance on engineering and construction issues.
  • Generate documentation and specifications using electronic systems, drawings, and field/work site logs.
  • Comply with safety guidelines and site procedures in engineering activities.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Adhere to Code of Conduct and policies.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required.
