Job summary

WSP in Arlington, VA is seeking a Full-Time Early Career Mechanical Engineer for Summer 2027 to join the Property & Buildings Team. You will help design, develop, test, and inspect mechanical systems on infrastructure projects.

Under supervision, you will collect data, perform basic engineering tasks, prepare documentation, and ensure safety and compliance. This role offers growth within a growing company and potential travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • 0–1 year of relevant post-education experience.
  • Strong research and analytical abilities.
  • Familiarity with design/build processes.
  • Knowledge of mechanical codes, safety practices and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Under general supervision, assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the site, surveys, blueprints, schematics, data, and reports for project development.
  • Assist with performing basic professional mechanical engineering work relating to researching and inspecting site conditions and conformance with rules and permits.
  • Perform routine engineering functions and provide entry-level technical assistance on design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies.
  • Assist with verifying site characteristics and providing technical assistance on design and construction issues.
  • Generate documentation and specifications using drawings, field logs, and electronic systems.
  • Comply with safety guidelines and site procedures.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise ethical decision-making regarding company funds and conduct, adhering to policies.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required.
