Job summary

Fairbanks North Star Borough is seeking an entry-level Appraiser I to perform on-site inspections, collect data, and assist in estimating property values within the borough boundaries.

The role emphasizes inventory and classification of real property improvements and land features through field inspections, with supervision and reporting to the Deputy Assessor. Must possess basic real estate knowledge and strong computer skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; 2 years experience in real estate or related field to gain knowledge of construction quality and costs.
• Proficient with personal computer programs; MS Excel required; Database and GIS experience preferred; able to type proficiently.
• Must have and maintain a valid driver's license; able to meet borough insurance standards.

Responsibilities

• Assist in on-site inspection of real property to determine building specifications, dimensions, grades, and quality of workmanship and materials.
• Assist in the process to predicate fair market value of property.
• Collect and review sales information to compare with proposed assessed value.
• Assist in preparing data for hearings before the Board of Equalization.
• Perform updates to property files and data collection with new information.
• Support market data compilation for property valuation and tax roll preparation.
