Job summary

Fairbanks North Star Borough is seeking an Appraiser I to perform on-site inspections, collect data, and assist in estimating observed quality and components for various properties within the Borough. This is an entry-level role focusing on inventory and classification through field work.

The position reports to the Deputy Assessor and requires a high school diploma plus basic computer skills. A valid driver’s license is required and occasional field work is expected.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two (2) years of experience in real estate, property management, or related work or college coursework in business, accounting, or engineering may substitute on a year-for-year basis.
• Ability to operate a PC and MS Excel; GIS experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in on-site inspection of real property to determine building specs, dimensions, grades, and workmanship.
• Assist in the process to predicate fair market value of property.
• Collect and review sales information to compare with assessed value.
• Prepare data for hearings before the Board of Equalization.
• Update property files and data with new information.
• Assist in compiling market data for property valuation and tax rolls.
