Job summary

Virginia Department of Social Services seeks an entry-level Family Services Specialist I to learn under supervision while gaining experience in Adult/Adult Protective Services, Child Protective Services, Foster Care/Adoption, Child Care, and Employment Services.

Positions involve routine to journey-level casework, with potential reclassification after training and approvals. Willingness to work after hours and in community shelters during emergencies is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or any field with 2 years related experience.
• BSW/MSW desirable; Virginia Social Worker license desirable.

Responsibilities

• Interpret laws, policies and regulations in assigned area.
• Coordinate and administer programs within area of responsibility.
• Interview and assess client needs and resources; develop service plans.
