Job summary

Commonwealth of Virginia seeks a Family Services Specialist I to support adult and child protective services, foster care, and employment services under supervision while training toward a higher level. The role involves learning program areas and performing routine to journey-level casework with supervisor review.

During training you will interpret laws, coordinate services, interview clients, and develop service plans.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Human Services or related field; 2+ years of related experience may substitute
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
• Desirable: BSW or MSW license and Virginia Social Worker license (where applicable)

Responsibilities

• Interprets laws, policies and regulations within the assigned area.
• Coordinates services within the responsibility area.
• Interviews and assesses client needs and factors such as education, skills, abilities and support systems.
• Presents cases to determine appropriate services and writes/implements service plans.
• Provides case management to monitor service delivery and compliance.
• Manages program waiting lists and tracks expenditures/budget estimates.
• Coordinates with other agencies and participates in multi-disciplinary teams.
• Provides after-hours on-call coverage and responds to emergencies in protective services.
