Junior Credit Underwriter – Small Business Lending

Job summary

Renasant Bank is seeking a Credit Underwriter I for its Small Business Lending Unit in Illinois. The role supports fundamental commercial credit and financial analysis, reviewing business and personal financial statements, tax returns, and credit reports to determine credit worthiness.

The position requires a high school diploma or higher, with a Bachelor’s preferred, and at least 1 year of related experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or Economics is preferred (or additional years of directly related experience).
• Minimum of 1 year of job related experience.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to learn and use new systems, processes, policies and procedures effectively.
• Must be able to prioritize and plan work activities to consistently complete the underwriting of 2 or more credits per day.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Ability to use a financial calculator to calculate loan payments and other financial calculations.
• Be a positive, proactive and flexible employee providing RNSTXcellence service.

Responsibilities

• Analyze noncomplex SBLU credits with loan amounts typically less than $100M
• Develop credit information for use by the SBLU in making lending decisions on new, renewal and prospective loans by reviewing and analyzing credit and financial information, preparing financial spreads and models
• Determine need for further investigation and complete it
• Prepare written summary, provide feedback, present facts and opinions concerning credit worthiness to the SBLU
• Manage pipeline workflow and communicate with manager as needed
• Ensure high-quality production and turnaround standards
• Complete nCino responsibilities including loading credit information into doc man and following department steps
• Monitor and help maintain the Bank’s Credit Scoring systems by calculating debt service ratios
• Work with loan officers to assist in qualifying loans
• Calculate pricing on SBLU requests
