Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Junior Civil Engineer to join our growing team in Welkom, Free State. This entry-level position provides hands-on experience in water supply and wastewater projects under experienced engineers.

You will be involved in hydraulic modelling, pipe network design, and site supervision, with a hybrid mix of design work and essential site visits. The role emphasizes mentorship, professional development, and exposure to diverse water infrastructure projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution.
• Pursue professional registration (Pr Eng) with ECSA in the future.
• 0-3 years of experience in civil engineering, with a preference for exposure to water or sanitation projects.
• Basic understanding of hydraulics, fluid mechanics, and water/wastewater treatment principles.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD is essential; experience with water modeling software (e.g., EPANET) is a plus.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to undertake site visits within the Free State province for this hybrid role.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Assist senior engineers in the design and planning of water supply systems, including pipelines, pumping stations, and treatment works.
• Support the design of wastewater collection and treatment systems.
• Conduct hydraulic calculations and network analysis using specialized software.
• Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, and reports under supervision.
• Participate in site investigations and assist with construction supervision as needed.
• Perform quantity take-offs and assist with cost estimations for projects.
• Ensure designs adhere to relevant standards, regulations, and environmental requirements.
• Collaborate with team members and contribute to a positive project environment.
• Learn and apply new engineering techniques and technologies.
