Job summary

The State of Vermont in Burlington, VT is seeking a full-time, exempt Clerical Specialist to support court operations with heavy data entry and case processing.

Responsibilities include docketing, filing, notices, reviewing documents, scheduling events, assisting with in-person and remote hearings, and providing timely information to the public. Eligible for longevity increases, holidays, vacation, and competitive health benefits.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years of clerical, secretarial or data entry experience preferred.
  • Legal setting experience or office technology mastery is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform specialized clerical and administrative work with heavy data entry and case processing.
  • Handle docket entry, filings, notices, and prepare orders & motions.
  • Schedule events on court calendar and support in-person and remote hearings.
  • Operate tools supporting court hearings and provide real-time docket entry.
  • Respond to inquiries and assist with forms, kiosks, and case information.
  • Balance tills and collect fines according to procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge of court rules and statutes.

Maximum Salary: $39.04


Description

  • Specialized clerical and administrative work with heavy data entry and case processing.
  • Performs case-flow functions across the full case-cycle including docket entry, entering new electronic and paper filings, sending notice, reviewing case documents for accuracy/completeness, preparing orders & motions, scheduling events on court calendar.
  • Responsible for operating various tools to support both in-person and remote virtual court hearings.
  • Perform operator function during court hearings by providing high-speed docket entry and real-time processing in medium and high-volume settings such as the criminal docket.
  • Employ attention to detail and methodical approach to ensure standardized business practices are followed.
  • Respond to customer inquiries to assist with filling-out forms, using court kiosks, preparing for court appearances, and providing case information.
  • Maintain excellent customer interaction by providing prompt information and assistance.
  • Collect fines and fees according to established procedure; close, balance and reconcile tills.
  • Maintain working knowledge and adherence to court rules and statutes.

Compensation

Starting salary is $25.08 per hour. This position will be eligible for longevity increases in accordance with the State step pay plan and annual cost of living increases as enacted by the Vermont State Legislature.


  • 12 days of vacation and sick leave are earned per year.
  • 14 holidays are paid per year.
  • Group life and medical insurance are available.
  • Dental coverage is effective after six months.
  • Membership in the Vermont State Employees Retirement System

Education: High School graduation or equivalent.


Experience: Two years of clerical, secretarial or data entry experience. Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in a legal setting or mastery of office technology.


College training may be substituted for the work experience on a year for year basis.
