Job summary

NiSource Inc. is seeking a Lineman to perform line work across overhead transmission and distribution systems and underground cable installations.

The role involves installing, maintaining and operating transformers, switches, conductors, and related equipment, with attention to safety rules and procedures. The position requires climbing ability, passing CAST and LineSchool tests, and willingness to be on call with possible overtime.

Qualifications

• Must pass CAST test.
• Must pass Climbing and LineSchool.
• Must be willing to be on call during off hours and work overtime as needed.
• Working knowledge of circuits and their voltages, substations, and equipment.
• Ability to climb and work at heights.
• May travel throughout service territory.
• If qualified journeyman lineman, must pass all required testing; if not, complete four-year apprenticeship.

Responsibilities

• Install, remove, relocate, and maintain transmission and distribution equipment and related line hardware.
• Install, remove, relocate and maintain underground distribution materials and equipment.
• Locate and repair secondary and primary cable faults.
• Request clearances and perform switching per procedures.
• Perform live-line work up to 12.5 kV and related maintenance tasks.
• Operate equipment such as aerial baskets, tensioners, digger derricks, and trenchers.
• Adhere to NiSource safety rules and operating regulations.
