Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Install, remove, relocate, and maintain transmission and distribution equipment and related line hardware.
  • Install, remove, relocate and maintain underground distribution materials and equipment.
  • Locate and repair secondary and primary cable faults.
  • Request clearances and perform switching per procedures.
  • Perform live-line work up to 12.5 kV and related maintenance tasks.
  • Operate equipment such as aerial baskets, tensioners, digger derricks, and trenchers.
  • Adhere to NiSource safety rules and operating regulations.

Job Title: Lineman

Job Summary

Perform all line work, of any voltage, in the construction, installation, maintenance and operation of overhead transmission and distribution lines. Perform all underground work in the installation, maintenance and operation of underground cable installations and equipment.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Install, remove, relocate, and maintain transmission and distribution, transformers, regulators, capacitors, arresters, cutouts, switches, ground rods, ground wires, insulators, conductors, line hardware and associated equipment.
  • Install, remove, relocate and maintain all types of underground distribution system materials and equipment such as, but not limited to, transformers, conductors, cable, splices, terminals, stress cones, conduit, ducts and related hardware.
  • Locate and repair secondary and primary cable faults
  • Request clearances and perform switching in accordance with operating procedures.
  • Perform work requiring rubber gloving 12.5 kv lines and below, and the use of live line tools in the construction and maintenance of distribution and transmission lines and equipment
  • Operate equipment such as aerial baskets, tensioners, digger derricks and trenchers.
  • Perform duties in accordance with the Company's safety rules and operating regulations and practices.
Required Qualifications for Position
  • Must successfully pass the CAST test.
  • Must successfully pass Climbing and LineSchool.
  • Must be willing to be "on call" during "off" hours, and be able and willing to respond to customer needs by working overtime as needed.
  • Working knowledge of circuits and their voltages, substations, and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of complex prints and specifications.
  • Perform, instruct, direct, and advise others in the performance of all types of line work.
  • Must have the ability to climb and work at heights.
  • Have a valid commercial drivers' license.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • May be required to travel throughout service territory.
  • If candidate is a qualified journeyman lineman they must pass all required testing.
  • If candidate is not qualified they will need to complete four yearapprenticeship before becoming a qualified journeyman lineman.
