Job summary

Broward College seeks a Journeyman HVAC Technician to perform installation, maintenance and repair of HVAC equipment at the Central Campus. This full-time position emphasizes safe, skilled work of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems under limited supervision.

Qualified candidates have five+ years of related HVAC experience, a Mechanical Journeyman certificate, an EPA Freon certificate, and a Florida driver’s license with timely renewal.

• Certified from HVAC Technical School.
• Mechanical Journeyman certificate.
• EPA Freon Certificate.
• Valid Florida Driver’s License within 30 days of starting employment.

Responsibilities

• Installs, maintains, and repairs HVAC equipment and systems (40% daily).
• Operates equipment to perform work (20%).
• Maintains and repairs direct digital/pneumatic controls (5%).
• Operates testing instruments (5%).
• Maintains electronic/pneumatic testing equipment (5%).
• Coordinates service with vendors for warranted parts (10%).
• Reads blueprints, piping, and wiring diagrams (5%).
• Performs brazing, soldering, pipefitting and welding (5%).
• Inventory management for supplies (5%).

Under limited supervision, the incumbent will demonstrate the ability to safely perform Journeyman level tasks in the installation, repair, and maintenance of heating, ventilation, air conditioning equipment and systems.

This position allows eligible veterans and their spouses to claim Veterans’ Preference pursuant to Florida Statute 295. Certain servicemembers may be eligible to receive waivers for postsecondary educational requirements, in the employment by the state and its political subdivisions and are encouraged to apply for the positions being filled.

Minimum Education:

• High School or equivalency Diploma required.

Minimum Experience/Training:

• Five or more years of related experience. Certified from credited HVAC Technical School.

Minimum Certification/Licenses:

• Mechanical Journeyman certificate, EPA Freon Certificate
• Valid Florida Driver’s License required or, as a condition of continued employment, a Valid Florida Driver’s License within 30 days after beginning employment by the College.

Essential Functions:

• Daily - 40%: Installs, maintains, and repairs heating, ventilating, air conditioning equipment and systems.
• Daily - 20%: Operates a variety of equipment as needed to perform work.
• Daily - 5%: Installs, maintains and repairs computerized Direct Digital, pneumatic devices related to HVAC control.
• Daily - 5%: Operates various measuring and testing instruments.
• Other - 5%: Maintains electronic/pneumatic testing equipment.
• Bi-Weekly - 10%: Calls and works with vendors to arrange service for warranted parts, select appropriate replacement parts and troubleshoot problems.
• Quarterly - 5%: Reads blueprints, piping and wiring diagrams.
• Other - 5%: Performs brazing, soldering, pipefitting and welding.
• Other - 5%: Responsible for inventory of supplies and control storage of materials.
