Job summary

ZEISS is seeking an experienced Field Service Engineer for a three-year international assignment in Japan, with eventual transition to a long-term U.S. position near Boise, Idaho. You will install, maintain and service ZEISS semiconductor systems, traveling internationally for training and collaboration.

Fluency in Japanese and strong English communication are required, along with a hands-on attitude and customer-oriented mindset to ensure top-quality service across cross-border teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Optics, or Mechatronics preferred; can be substituted with 5 years experience in optics/mechatronics.
• Strong customer orientation with flexibility in service hours.
• Ability to read electrical or mechanical engineering docs and schematics.
• Experience in the semiconductor/ optics industry; may travel internationally.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and service ZEISS 3D Tomography Inspection & Metrology and Mask Shop Solutions systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and execute complex repairs.
• Serve as the primary on-site contact for customers in Japan; ensure high-quality service.
• Coordinate service activities and report equipment status to customers and global ZEISS teams.
• Manage spare parts inventory including ordering and returns.
• Document all service activities, reports, and quality updates.
• Collaborate with experts in Germany and the U.S. to support installations.
• Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying solutions and improving processes.
• Develop and deliver training to local teams in Japan.
• Act as liaison across Japan, Germany, and U.S. teams.
