Job summary

ZEISS seeks a Field Service Engineer for a 3-year international assignment in Japan, with a transition to a Boise, Idaho-based role. You will service ZEISS semiconductor systems, install, maintain, and troubleshoot at a customer site, collaborating with teams in Japan, Germany and the U.S.

Fluency in Japanese and strong English communication are required, plus willingness to travel internationally and support continuous improvement initiatives throughout the global ZEISS network.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred, or 5 years optics/mechatronics experience.
• Strong customer focus with flexibility in service hours.
• Ability to read electrical/mechanical engineering docs and schematics.
• Experience in the semiconductor industry is required or preferred.
• Willingness to travel internationally as needed.
• Independent, hands-on work style with assertiveness.
• Experience in optics is a plus.
• Proficient English communication; Japanese language skills required.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain and service ZEISS 3D Tomography, Metrology and Mask Shop systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshoot complex issues.
• Serve as primary on-site contact for customers in Japan.
• Coordinate service activities and report equipment status with global teams.
• Manage spare parts inventory including ordering and returns.
• Document all service activities, reports, and quality updates timely.
• Support installation and service needs with Germany and the U.S. teams.
• Contribute to continuous process improvements and solutions.
• Develop and deliver training to local teams in Japan.
• Act as liaison across Japan, Germany, and U.S. teams.

We're offering a unique opportunity for an experienced Field Service Engineer to take on a three-year international assignment based in Japan. In this role, you'll work hands-on with ZEISS semiconductor systems, supporting installation, preventive maintenance, and ongoing technical service.

Fluency in Japanese is required, as you'll collaborate closely with local teams and customers. Throughout the assignment, you'll also engage with global experts and travel internationally for training and knowledge exchange.

Upon successful completion of the assignment, the role will transition into a long-term position in the United States, primarily based in the Boise, Idaho area.

Do you qualify?

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Optics, or Mechatronics is preferred, but not required and may be substituted with 5 years of industry experience in the area of optics or mechatronics.
• High customer orientation with special engagement and flexibility in regard to service hours.
• Ability to read and understand electrical or mechanical engineering documentation and schematics.
• Technical experience working in the semiconductor industry.
• May periodically be required to travel internationally.
• Single-handed work ability, strong hands-on mentality, and the ability to assert oneself.
• Experience working within the optics industry is preferred.
• Good communication skills written and verbally in English.
• Proficient in spoken and written Japanese.
• Experienced with Windows operating environments and word processing and/or email applications as well as with databases or CRM systems
