Job description

  • Position Type:
    Technology/ Technical Support

You will be the person staff and students come to when technology stops working — and the person who helps build what comes next. The Brandon School District Technology Department is small, which means the work is broad and you own real systems from your first month instead of waiting years for the chance.

The primary work site is Brandon High School, with local travel to Brandon Middle School, Harvey-Swanson Elementary, and Oakwood Elementary. This position is contracted through Edustaff.

What you will actually work on

Most technician jobs at this level are a ticket queue and nothing else. This one is not. Day-to-day support is real and it matters — staff laptops, student Chromebooks, classroom audio/video, printers, and the network that holds it all together. Alongside that, you will work with the Director of Technology on district projects:

  • Enterprise badge access control (Kantech EntraPass) — new installation at the high school and retrofits district-wide
  • IP camera system maintenance, expansion, and repair
  • Server virtualization and infrastructure upgrades
  • Active Directory, Group Policy, and Windows 11 fleet management
  • Google Workspace , Chromebook, & iPad administration at scale
  • Enterprise network and firewall hardware (Palo Alto, HP Aruba, & Meraki)

That is the kind of range that usually takes five years and three different jobs to assemble. You will work directly with the Director of Technology rather than through multiple layers.

What we require
  • High school diploma or GED
  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting ability with Windows and ChromeOS devices
  • The judgment to handle confidential student and staff information appropriately
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and to sit for extended periods while working at a computer, with or without reasonable accommodation
What helps, but we can teach you

You do not need to have done all of these before. If you are the person your friends and family call when their technology breaks, and you would rather figure something out than hand it off, we can teach you the rest.

  • Classroom audio/video systems, projectors, and display troubleshooting
  • Network fundamentals — switching, structured cabling, wireless access points
  • Imaging, deployment, and endpoint management tooling
  • Access control, IP camera, or other low-voltage systems
  • PowerShell scripting, or a genuine willingness to learn it
  • Prior experience in a school, library, municipality, or other public sector environment
Essential functions
  • Service district hardware and software for client and server computers, networks, telephones, and related peripheral equipment to ensure usability.
  • Install and relocate equipment, including unpacking, placement, connection, and configuration.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair equipment to resolve failures, malfunctions, or configuration issues, coordinating warranty service with vendors and service providers as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of hardware, software, peripherals, components, licensing, shipping, and other relevant information.
  • Assist with audio/video connectivity and troubleshooting so classroom systems are available when needed.
  • Conduct routine system maintenance and monitoring to minimize downtime.
  • Update or upgrade equipment on local and networked systems to maintain functionality.
  • Consult with users regarding hardware, software, and system functionality.
  • Document procedures for both internal department use and end users.
  • Advise on emerging technologies and technology purchases so building-level planning aligns with district technology planning.
  • Deliver training on software and hardware operation and maintenance.
  • Promote best practices in system use so that staff have appropriate access and district security is maintained.
  • Prepare reports and maintain documentation supporting the district technology roadmap.
  • Prioritize and elevate computer and network issues appropriately, coordinating with department staff and end users to meet district technical needs.
  • Communicate courteously and accurately with staff, students, parents, community members, vendors, and partner agencies.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a small team, and de-escalate and resolve frustrating situations with patience, both in person and online.
  • Manage workload and plan support tasks independently, adjusting to shifting priorities and deadlines.
