Introduction

The person in this position will provide information technology (IT) support to the Department of Social Services staff. The DSS IT staff collaborates with the larger County Information Technology group on all aspects of hardware and software management. About This Role
The person in this position will perform multiple tasks, including the following: provide technical support to agency users with their computer and information technology needs on a daily basis; identify and resolve computer-related issues for over 400 users; work closely with county and state technical staff, as well as outside vendors, to maintain the functionality of local and state IT systems; coordinate computer hardware refreshes, relocate equipment, and conduct computer equipment inventory; provide training and technical assistance to staff; define, create, and maintain user manuals, job aids, and quick reference materials; collaborate with vendors to research and evaluate products, and submit orders for various computer and cell phone equipment; install and set up computer hardware, cell phones, and scanners; perform administrative duties related to state system access, including the collection and filing of required access request forms and annual training certificates; perform password resets for state systems as a local agency's security officer; and support staff with Microsoft products, including issues related to Excel and Word. Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or G.E.D. and 2 years of experience in the technology field, software, providing IT customer service and support with desktops, laptops, mobile devices and cell phones.
Preferences
- Bachelor’s or associate degree in computer science, or related field
- 3 years of work experience in customer service and support in the technical field, including laptops, desktops, mobile devices, software, and cell phones
- Experience researching, reviewing, and recommending vendors or off-the-shelf products
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, and Excel
- 2 years of experience managing Inventory
- 2 years of experience working with IT contractors and other technical and non-technical staff
- Experience administering VDSS systems and equipment
- Experience in tech-related administrative tasks, such as system access management, tracking assistance requests, and password resets
Special Requirements
- All DSS staff are required to provide emergency human services work, including staffing emergency shelters in the event of a community disaster.
- Candidates must pass criminal history, child protective services, and DMV background checks.
- Resource/foster parents for youth in the Prince William foster care program may not be employed by the Prince William Department of Social Services. Resource/foster parents for youth from other localities are welcome to apply.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and be eligible to drive for work.
- The incumbent will rotate between the two main offices in Manassas and Woodbridge. The selected candidate will be expected to work from all DSS and county locations.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday (37.50 hours per week.)
This position is eligible to telework when the schedule permits, but depending on business needs, this is not an ongoing guarantee.
Starting Salary Range: $25.44 to $36.98 Hourly
