Job summary

Larimer County Department of Health and Environment is seeking an IT Asset Management Specialist to oversee the lifecycle of hardware and software assets, ensuring license compliance and accurate IT billing. The role involves policy development, inventory entry, and coordination with departments on cost questions.

The ideal candidate will manage decommissioned equipment through auctions or recycling, support the IT bullpen, and collaborate across teams while valuing diversity and inclusion.

Qualifications

  • Four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.
  • ITIL Foundations Certification preferred.
  • Experience auditing software licenses.
  • Knowledge of IT assets and networks.

Responsibilities

  • Establishing, implementing, and communicating policies for purchasing, tracking, and managing IT assets—from acquisition to retirement.
  • Entering asset details (serial numbers, tags) into the inventory system and keeping data accurate, up to date, and auditable.
  • Auditing software licenses, warranties, and maintenance agreements against usage to ensure legal compliance and timely upgrades.
  • Processing chargebacks to County departments using the IT Billing system and helping departmental leads with questions about their costs.
  • Building vendor relationships to manage the auction, sale, or recycling of decommissioned equipment.
  • Serving as a backup for the County operator line and IT Department front desk as needed.
  • Demonstrating commitment to being respectful and valuing differences among individuals.

Overview

The IT Asset Management Specialist manages the lifecycle of the County’s hardware and software assets. Key responsibilities include tracking inventory, ensuring software license compliance, and managing the IT billing application to charge departments for their assigned assets. This role also oversees external programs for recycling or selling decommissioned equipment.

This position is ideal for an organized problem-solver who enjoys bringing structure to complex systems, partnering across teams, and optimizing IT assets and costs.

  • This position follows a hybrid schedule and requires at least three in-office days per week.
  • On-site work for this position will occur at: 200 W. Oak St. (Fort Collins, CO)

What We’re Looking For
  • Ability to convey technical and administrative information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Attention to detail with proven ability to inventory, audit, investigate, and resolve data discrepancies across systems.
  • Practical competence in operating and maintaining specialized inventory tracking software.
  • Solid working knowledge of core IT assets, including servers, PCs, network switches, radios, mobile devices, and software licenses.
  • Understanding of network connectivity, including physical/virtual circuits, ports, IP services, and analog phone lines.
  • Skilled at researching complex product, service, and vendor-related issues to drive resolution.
Qualifications

All candidates will be screened for the following required minimum qualifications. Any candidate who does not meet all of the qualifications listed as required will be eliminated from the process.

  • Four (4) years of experience in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities required.
  • ITIL Foundations Certification preferred.
