Job summary

The Salvation Army North and Central Illinois Division is seeking a Counselor Aide for Harbor Light/IRU. This role provides non-clinical client support, assists with records, and helps maintain an orderly unit.

It requires readiness to supervise residents at night, on weekends, and holidays, with a focus on safety and communication. Responsibilities include helping with written/oral communications, incident reporting, and coordinating activities while supporting the unit under the Intensive

Qualifications

• One year of experience preferred.
• Must be able to read and write.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Able to work as a team member and well with others.
• Demonstrated initiative and be a self-starter.
• Positive attitude and flexibility with changing priorities.
• At least one year of sobriety required.
• Commitment to Salvation Army mission.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the unit during nights, weekends and holidays.
• Monitor residents overnight for emergencies.
• Contact 911 in medical or fire emergencies and evacuate if needed.
• Call police if serious violence occurs.
• Prevent residents from leaving unit during off-hours.
• Enforce house rules and unit schedule.
• Maintain the night log and incident reports.
• Schedule activities for residents on weekends/holidays.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings.
• May be scheduled for other shifts; perform other duties.
